Reflection

I learned that Canadian English is that much different from except for a different accent that is spoken with the English. my language beliefs hasn't really changed, if not ensured them more. we all speak the same language, just not the same way. If there are any questions that would like to raise in the future, it would be that how would this change and effect us over time. this has been a fun time researching and discovering, and i can only hope to learn more later in the future.

Recommendations

i would recommend that people look up language beliefs on the Internet themselves to see what i turned up and their may also be something different. Also ask yourself what you know about language in Canada, and ask others what they know and think about Canadian language as well. Things might change depending on the people you know or the results you turn up yourself when you research and ask yourself these questions. I think that i would help for people to specifically look at what other people know about Canadian language and how it relates to English, if at all. 

Conclusion

Based on my research, i have found that people know a lot about Canada.  It was interesting  to me  to see all of the different language beliefs that people have, and then base that off of what people think about Canadian language. Seeing what they thought about their own language seemed to influence what they thought about Canadian language, versus the question that asked what they were TOLD about language in Canada.  We can learn from this that what people hear from others and think themselves influence the thoughts of others things. it was interesting to see that most people thought it was just like our English, though some thought there might be an accent and knew the spoke french as well.

Here is an interpretation of my data

From my survey and my graph, i found out that people do know a bit about Canada, though those same people could not answer the question about language in Canada. Most of what people said was what i think they heard from TV and other sources, and i wish i had included a question about where they got the information from. all in all this data supported some of the conclusions i made in earlier posts, and i hope to have more posts up later...

This table shows that people that more people actually had something to say about Canadian language that was truthful and honest rather than people not knowing anything about Canadian language, which is represented by the green bar.

Has Canadian slang Influenced English?

In an interesting article posted on wikipedia, more than half of the entire population have a knowlege of american english? But the question is, has there knowlege effected our language and slang itself? In Canada, outside of Quebec, all canadians speak english fluently. Often the only difference is in the spelling of these words: Colour or color, grey or gray, etc. Almost in all the articles that i've read, it seems more that english in america has effected canadian english than vise versa. As one canadian put it, "we have more trouble keeping up with american english, so naturally some of the terms we use would be considered out of date in america."

 So it seems that the question should be how has american english influenced canada? Lets take a look at some word differences. this will be from english to canadian: Faucet---->tap, gas----->petrol. trunk---->boot and so on. This is also interesting because i have relatives that live in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and some of the words I listed here they use in those very northern states. So maybe it can be said that the farther up you go in the USA, the more the slang of the two countries would seem to blend? This seems possible. So it seems that we have influenced canada more than its influenced us, and that if you drive north in america, the further up you go the languages seem to blend together. It is very interesting to me to see how this might play out over the years, and i will try and keep tabs on it as it keeps changing.

My Own Language Beliefs

I believe that language is important skill to have in any situation. It it not only fun to communicate with others, but communications is important in job situations in situations requiring quick work to be done. Now about how we talk. I was born on the west coast and spent part of my childhood there as well. When i came down south it took a bit of an adjustment to listen and understand the new accent. Now, almost 13 years later, I speak in the same accent i orignally didn't understand! The evolution of this is very interesting too me...                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

intro to my ranting madness

My goal of this blog is to reveal the ways in which Canada has effected ours and other languages. It is clear that the people from Canada once immigrated from France centuries ago, but during those years, people from canada moved into america and people from america moved into canada. So how does this all connect? these are some of the questions that will be answered in this blog, and, it will also help inspire you to go on your own language journey as well.
